  • Lean Protein - 25% of your plate should contain approximately 3 oz. of lean meat, fish, poultry, nuts/seeds, or meat substitutes like gluten. Some other foods that can be used in your diabetes plate method that are proportion with this serving size includes: 1-2 medium-size eggs, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 2 ounces of cheese, and ⅓ cup of nut products.
  • Carbohydrates - The remaining 25% that is included in your diabetes plate method contain an approximately 45-60 grams of foods, which contains carbohydrates; this is equivalent to 3-4 types of foods that contain 15 grams of carbohydrate. These foods include all sorts of grains, beans, fresh fruits, starchy vegetables, and dairy products such as milk. Consider whole grains over refined or processed foods to make your plate healthier.
