Food for Type 2 Diabetes
There are a lot of great appetizer and snack ideas available to people with diabetes. The important thing to remember is choose good nutrition. That is foods with low calories, low glycemic index carbs, low fat, and high fiber. Snacks that are made of proteins, fiber, and unsaturated fats will keep you feeling full longer.
Here are a few examples:
- Serve cut-up raw fruits or vegetables with low-fat dip for a mid-morning break
- Put together fresh fruit and low cholesterol cheese trays
- Serve fruit and vegetable fondues
- Chop berries or tropical fruits, mix with fresh basil and balsamic vinegar, spread on thinly sliced, toasted baguettes
- Spear fruits or vegetables on skewers and grill
- Chop fresh tomatoes, marinate in vinaigrette, serve as spread for bruschetta
- Crush berries and mix into ricotta cheese, serve as spread for crackers
- Serve frozen grapes in small cups
- Serve sugar-free snacks that low in fats
